NOTE FROM THE EDITOR
Community/school partnerships are needed today more than ever before – and we’re actively looking at ways in which we can help. A few items we’re working on:
- “Finding New Resources for Schools” Road Show – We are seriously considering launching a full-day training initiative that would travel to several cities this fall. The program would include hands-on training in developing partnerships, writing grants, and launching a school foundation. The training would be appropriate for those who are directly involved in these areas (partnership and foundation leaders) as well as principals, district officials, chamber leaders, businesspeople, and others.
- Webinars – Our Fall 2008 webinar series was well-received, and we’re thinking of doing another series beginning in September.
- National Coalition – We’ve met with the leaders of several different organizations to discuss the creation of a national coalition for those representing the full spectrum of community/school engagement; this would allow us to collaborate on advocacy, research, training and the like. Discussions are ongoing.
I’d appreciate feedback from anyone interested in these initiatives. There’s no guarantee that any of them are moving forward: as with anything, we have to be confident that there’s a real interest in them before we go ahead. So if you’d like to see them happen, we need to hear from you. Let me know that you’d like to play a part in a national coalition, or that you’d be interested in attending a training session in your area. We’re still working on the details, and your guidance would be greatly appreciated.
I should also note that we’ve launched a standalone web site for the K-12 Partnership Report. Take a look at www.kprnewsletter.com; the site includes a handful of free downloads from recent issues.
